Latex on plastic, variable dimensions

Inspired by the ceiling paintings of the Italian Renaissance, Cécile Baumgartner Vizkelety references satellite images of the oceans and the surface structure of the earth with this installation, for which she pours latex over plastic. The artist uses the symbolism of water from a hydrofeminist perspective and develops a train of thought in which each element is incorporated. The term «hydrofeminism» was created to bring together feminist, queer and ecological sensibilities and begins with the recognition that we are largely made of water. It refuses a separation between nature and culture, or between an environment «out there» and a human subject «in here». The search for unity and connection between the individual and the universe gives shape to the concept of «oceanic feeling», as the French writer Romain Rolland called it.
