The Cantonale is a collaboration between Kunstverein Biel and Kunsthaus Pasquart and shows this year 56 positions using the whole exhibition space. In media such as painting, drawing, video, sculpture, photography or installation, the regional artists question current themes and challenge our viewing habits. Showing art here means creating relationships and building bridges.
Works by the prizewinners of the Prix Kunstverein and the Prix Anderfuhren will also be presented at the Cantonale Berne Jura.
Institutions of contemporary art from Berne, Biel/Bienne, Interlaken, Langenthal, Le Noirmont, Moutier, Porrentruy and Thun organise the Cantonale Berne Jura together. Artists exhibit in various exhibition architectures and the public has the opportunity to appraise their works beyond the borders of the cantons. Access is open to professional artists who live or work in the cantons of Berne or Jura or who belong to one of the two art scenes. For the exhibition this year, the Kunstverein Biel appointed a professional jury of three people who made the selection for Kunsthaus Pasquart from all 342 applications over several days. The jury was composed of:
Marcel Freymond, artist
Felicity Lunn, director Kunsthaus Pasquart
Claudine Metzger, artistic director Kunsthaus Grenchen
Of the 56 selected artists, 17 come from Biel and the region. There are several collectives and no fewer than thirty-one women and thirty-three men are represented. Due to the size of the Kunsthaus, Biel has the highest number of artists of all the participating institutions.
Curator of the exhibition
Felicity Lunn, director Kunsthaus Pasquart
